Using Pinecast with a keyboard
We work hard to make sure the Pinecast dashboard is fully accessible without using a pointing device (like a mouse, touch screen, or touchpad).
There's a number of basic features you'll find:
- A skip link - when you press Tab for the first time, you'll see a link to skip past the navigation on the page and jump right to the content.
- Quick switcher - Press ctrl+k on Windows/Linux or command+k on Mac in the dashboard. This opens a UI that lets you quickly jump between pages in the dashboard.
- Menus - Your keyboard's arrow keys work inside menus, like they do in your operating system. The escape key closes the menu.
- No drag and drop - You never need to use drag-and-drop in our UI; there's always a keyboard equivalent.
Seek bars
When using a player, we have seek bars that let you skip backwards or forwards. You can focus the seek bar by tabbing to it.
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Right/Up arrow | Go forward five seconds |
| Left/Down arrow | Go backward five seconds |
| Page up | Go forward 10% of the duration of the episode |
| Page down | Go forward 10% of the duration of the episode |
| Home | Go to the start of the episode |
| End | Go to the end of the episode |
| Space | Toggle play/paused |
Screen readers say the position of the player in words.
