How to write an appealing podcast description
When starting a podcast, you want to put your best foot forward. It can be tempting to try to use your podcast description as a tool to lure in listeners with SEO-style tactics, but this can often have the opposite effect. Here are some tips for writing an attractive and straightforward podcast description.
First, what is a description?
Your description should tell listeners in a paragraph or less what they should expect from your show. It doesn't need to be an exhaustive overview of everything that's covered: it should highlight the main theme or themes of your show.
Don't go into too much detail
Too long of a description can leave your listeners feeling overwhelmed. Descriptions should be skimmable and concise. Imagine reading the description to a friend: if you think they'd get bored, confused, or uninterested, it's probably too long.
Skip the AI
Listeners are tuning in for you, not an AI that's writing your copy. AI-written descriptions are easy to spot and leave listeners with a bad taste. Write a genuine, straightforward podcast description that doesn't "delve into" too much detail. Don't worry if you're not a master wordsmith, a "real" description will attract far more interest than a "fake" one!
No code, no links
Use plain text only. HTML code isn't supported in podcast descriptions.
Also, don't include links in your description: they won't be clickable. Instead, add the links to your podcast website (if you're creating a show on Pinecast, you can do this once your show is created) or in the Homepage field.
